My mom just told me about a potential change to the SOL tests in Virginia.

(For non-Virginians, SOLs are the standardized tests in Math, English, History, and Science that students have to pass in order to be promoted to the next grade starting in 3rd grade and going through 10th or 11th.)

Apparently someone thought it would be a good idea to change the passing requirement on the math tests from being one, standardized score for all students to a score based on the student’s race.

That’s right. If this change is made, an Asian student would be required to score higher than a White student and a White student would be required to score higher than a Black student. But only on the Math tests.
